Our late-night dining experience at Filling Station Bar and Cafe, a retro-themed restaurant in Makati, Philippines.
When it comes to late-night food-scapades, a place that immediately comes to mind is Filling Station. It is an American-themed diner found at the heart of Makati, Philippines.
My mom was the one who introduced the family to this resto, so it always had a special place in my heart. Since then, it is one of my most recommended places when my friends are looking for a unique restaurant to try.
The Ambiance
Filling Station is a go-to place if you are a fan of themed restaurants. Walking inside, you will immediately feel transported back in time as the American-themed diner is filled with 1950s decor. It is complete with vintage posters, jukeboxes, vinyl records, and other old-school memorabilia. One cannot help but take pictures in every corner as it is very instagrammable.
The restaurant uses bold colors and neon lights, which enhanced the retro vibe. Looking from the street, it will definitely catch the eye.
The restaurant has several sections, each decked with different decors. It prompts a trip back to memory lane, especially when you had parents who were also collectors of vintage items.
The overall atmosphere was lively and upbeat, yet also cozy and intimate.
The Food
Filling Station serves American diner dishes. The menu had an extensive range of options, from burgers and sandwiches to pasta and tacos. The different selections looked mouth-watering. They also have a lot of dessert options, which I always enjoy.
Filipino dishes are also available, which makes it a good venue for hangouts with international friends.
Last night's visit was on a whim since we were craving good desserts at midnight. As we perused the menu, the selections enticed us to order more than dessert.
For starters, we had a Belgian Waffle, which was served with ice cream and generously drizzled with chocolate syrup. The waffle was warm and fluffy - complimenting well with the vanilla ice cream.
We also went for the Barbacao Tacos, which were filled with roasted pulled beef. The beef itself is fork-tender and flavorful. It is fully loaded with toppings - the savory mix of flavors was a party in my mouth.
We also ordered Loaded Potato Skins, which were loaded with bacon bits, cheese, and chives. It is served with a side of sour cream. They were crispy, cheesy, and absolutely delicious. It is good on its own, but even better when dipped in sour cream.
Lastly, we tried Mr. Bean’s Dirty Mess, which was vanilla ice cream served with oreos and broas cookies, topped with a chocolate shell and cherry. It was bigger than we expected. It satisfied our sweet tooth and was a perfect ending to a great meal.
Overall Experience
Dining at Filling Station is always a delightful experience.
The retro ambiance, combined with the delicious food and excellent service, created a dining experience that was truly memorable.
If you are looking for a unique and satisfying dining experience, I highly recommend checking out Filling Station. It is definitely one of the must-try places in Makati.
